Job Resume Format Ads by WG:  $40,000 jobs | Freelance jobs | Career Assessment

A beautiful job resume for the work at home position is the one that is easy to read and keeps the readers attention. Human resources recruiters appreciate the ability to scan through information quickly and understand the skills of the person behind the resume in just 30 seconds.

Consistency

Be sure that your resume is consistent from top to bottom, this makes it easier for the reader to quickly glance through the points he is looking for. For example, if you bold one employer's name, you will want to bold them all. If you italicize one employment date, you will want to repeat that throughout.

Spell Checking

The number one most important rule of a resume is to make sure the spelling is correct. Double, triple, and even quadruple check the spelling of your completed resume. One spelling error could cost you the position you are applying for. Most recruiters have astute attention to detail and if they perceive that you did not spend your quality time on the resume, they will likely think that you will also not spend quality time on the open position.

Bullet Points

The best work at home resume is the easiest to read and highlights skills and accomplishments only by using bullet points. Reading through bullets is much quicker and efficient than reading through a full sentence. It is also much easier on you in constructing your work at home resume because you do not have to think of extra words to put on the paper, just list everything out nice and simple.

Be sure to read through the work at home resume format tips so you have the information on your resume that employers will want to read.

Use White Space as a Highlighter

White space is easier on the eyes and should be balanced for resume beauty. Use at least 1 inch margins on all sides of the paper (top, bottom, left, right). If you have a section you would like highlighted in your resume, leave plenty of white space before and after the section. This will allow the section to stand out without adding special effects.

Font Choices

The best font for a resume is the plain font. Leave the fancy script fonts for invitations and valentines letters. Arial and Times New Roman are the preferred business fonts still today and they are easy to read. If you must use a special font, make sure it is plain vanilla. Never use more than two fonts on a resume, more fonts will introduce clutter to the eyes and create an impression of indecision. Never use any color other than black for your font.

Underline, Bold and Italics

It is said that underline is harder to read, so stray away from underlining unless in the most dire of circumstances. Bold and Italics are both great ways to highlight specific words in the resume, however, if more than one word or phrase is bolded, it is likely not to stick out as much as you had planned. If bolding one item, such as employer name, you should bold all employer names in the resume. The same stands true for italics.

Paper Choices

Most resumes for work at home positions are emailed, therefore, the need to choose paper is rare. However, some email programs allow for background colors and graphics. It is best to stray away from these email choices, as the recipients email may not have the ability to read and display the background, in which case the program will attach the background as an attachment to the email. This may put you in a real pickle, as many corporations filter out email that have attachments associated with them. It is better to stay Plain Jane in this situation and choose not to have a pretty background for your resumes, save the fun for the email you will write to your friend when you get your work at home job.

However, if you do find yourself in a place where you need to send a resume through snail mail, paper choices can help you really stand out as a professional. Colored paper is not recommended, as color is typically considered unprofessional. With that in mind, consider white paper as off limits as well. If the paper is too plain, it may just get attached to the back of some other plain white paper resume or mixed in with other papers. Try getting a heavier weight paper (a little thicker than normal) in an off-white color, such as an eggshell or very light beige. This will help your resume stand out and still holds the professional color.

When your resume has impressed the best recruiters, prepare yourself for the work at home interview.
